Dushanbe is a pleasant capital city with tree lined streets, parks and fountains and not as busy as the other central Asian capitals. It is easy to get around on foot. There are plenty of places to eat and drink and even a few nightclubs.


The Pamir

The Pamir mountains contain some of the world’s highest peaks, with a number of them over 7,000 m. They are stunningly beautiful and an excellent place for trekking and this is one of the main reasons people come to Tajikistan. The people of the Pamir region are incredibly hospitable and staying at a local guest house is a rewarding experience.


The Sughd region lies in the north-west of Tajikistan with Khujand being the main city and is the most prosperous part of the country. There are some wonderful areas to visit in the region including the Yagnob Valley and Fann mountains.


The Khatlon region of Tajikistan, lies in the south-west of the country with the city of Qurghonteppa as it’s capital. It’s less mountainous than the other regions of the country and can get extremely hot in the summer. This region is less visited by tourists but there are a few sights worth seeing including the famous Temple of Oxus founded in the 6th century BC.
