Transnistria

The self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria, lies between the Dniester river and Ukraine. It is unrecognised by any other official state, however it has it’s own flag, government, currency, police and military. Somewhere Different can arrange tours to the region. The three official languages of Transnistria are Russian, Moldovan and Ukrainian.

Tiraspol

Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria  is like stepping back to Soviet Times. There is still a statue of Lenin in front of the parliament building and streets names after Marx, Engels and Yuri Gagarin. The city has some nice parks including the Culture Park, close to the university. The city has some good eating options and quite a few nightclubs. The Kvint Distillery is also worth a visit where you can witness some of the finest cognac in the world being produced.

Bendery

Just across the border from Moldova, lies the city of Bendery. There is a 600 year old fortress in Bendery that overlooks the river. This structure was built by the Ottomans and gives wonderful views from the roof. The city has a variety of eating options as well as a few nightclubs.
